Before buying a lifetime deal: a creator’s checklist

Check usage limits, license terms, renewal conditions, and export options before the price.

Check usage limits, license terms, renewal conditions, and export options before the price.

A lifetime deal can reduce recurring costs, but the label alone tells you little about the product’s usefulness or the license you receive. Treat the offer as a set of terms to inspect, not a percentage to chase.

Start with the job you already have

Write the task you would use the product for this week. If you need to invent a use for it, the discount is doing more work than the product. Test the current version on a representative task before the refund window, if the seller offers one.

Find the boundaries of “lifetime”

Read the vendor’s agreement. Identify whose lifetime the offer refers to, whether service depends on the company continuing to operate, and whether a new product or plan is excluded. Do not assume a one-time payment guarantees unlimited future features.

Check the tier, not just the headline

List seats, workspaces, brands, accounts, monthly credits, storage, file sizes, and API access. Confirm which of these belong to your selected license. AI usage can involve recurring supplier costs; check how the offer handles them.

Separate the types of savings

A launch discount on the first billing cycle is different from a recurring discounted subscription. A one-time software license is different again. Compare like-for-like plans, billing periods, currencies, and taxes. A crossed-out price is not enough evidence that you would otherwise have paid that amount.

Inspect redemption and refund terms

Record the seller, redemption deadline, refund conditions, account restrictions, and the steps required to activate the license. Keep the receipt and the exact terms you accepted. Confirm current terms at checkout rather than relying on a directory summary.

Make exit practical

Check whether you can export your work in a standard format. Keep copies of important assets and avoid making a single discounted product the only place your business data exists. A cheap subscription replacement can become expensive if you cannot leave it.

How Picktool displays deals

Our deal pages separate marketplace offers, negotiated Picktool exclusives, and launch discounts. We show the seller link, what was checked, and what remains unverified. At launch, our AppSumo links are ordinary links without affiliate commissions. Future paid or affiliate relationships must be disclosed on the relevant page.

One useful rule

Choose a deal after choosing a suitable tool. “It solves this recurring task, the limits cover my usage, and I can export my work” is a stronger reason than “the discount ends soon.”
