How we pick—and what we have not tested.

Picktool policies, evidence standards, and release information.

Our initial directory descriptions are vendor-sourced, not hands-on benchmarks. Editorial scores are not invented. Actual community ratings are computed only from approved reviews and are labelled separately.

Evidence levels

  • Vendor-sourced: a public product/documentation source supports the description.
  • Hands-on tested: reserved for a repeatable test with plan, version, date, input, output, and limitations.
  • Community-submitted: attributed maker information reviewed for publication; not automatically an independent endorsement.
  • Community review: a signed-in person’s claimed first-hand experience, subject to moderation. Sign-in does not prove purchase or tool usage.

What upvotes mean

One signed-in account can upvote a tool once and remove that vote. Votes express community interest, not a measured quality or performance result. They do not purchase a position in editorial recommendations.

Profiles and freshness

Founder/social sections appear only when supported by a checked source. Submitted profiles stay hidden until a moderator verifies them. Check dates record substantive work, not automatic timestamp refreshes.

Commercial separation

Payment cannot buy a review outcome or editorial winner. Picktool-owned utilities and commercial relationships are labelled clearly.
